My Story

I have drawn and painted for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to live and travel throughout the United States, Ecuador, and Europe. Those experiences have greatly influenced the people, places, wildlife, and memories that inspire my paintings.

My watercolor journey truly began in Washington, D.C., when I studied with my mentor, Kay White, who trained under renowned watercolor teacher Edgar Whitney. She taught me not only how to paint, but also how to teach. I have now been painting in watercolor for more than 40 years.

How I Paint

I work traditionally in transparent watercolor, allowing the white of the paper to provide my whites. My paintings begin with careful consideration of design, value, and color, but I don't want to define every detail.

My approach is closest to Impressionism. I want to capture a feeling, a memory, or a mood and allow the viewer's imagination to become part of the painting.

Why I Paint

I paint what brings me joy—people, places, wildlife, travel, and moments that have stayed with me.

Painting gives me a place to focus on beauty, happiness, and the experiences that make life interesting.

I like to joke that painting is my Viagra—it keeps me excited about life.

I currently serve as Director of Education for the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society, where I enjoy sharing my love of watercolor and encouraging other artists.
